G8 Leaders Wrap Up Annual Summit in Georgia
10 June 2004

Leaders from the world's chief industrialized nations wrap up their annual summit Thursday, in the U.S. state of Georgia.

President Bush has an early meeting with French President Jacques Chirac before the Group of Eight leaders hold their morning session.

A separate meeting between Mr. Bush and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was canceled. Officials did not immediately give a reason.

Wednesday, French President Chirac expressed reservations about a proposal from Mr. Bush to expand NATO's role in Iraq. Mr. Chirac said NATO's involvement should increase only if Iraq's sovereign government asks for help.

NATO currently provides logistical support for a Polish-led multinational division in Iraq.

Later, President Bush is scheduled to lunch with African leaders and hold a news conference before returning to Washington.
