Syracuse Wins Insight.com College Football Bowl

U.S. college football's 18th-ranked Syracuse Orangemen eased by the Kansas State Wildcats, 26-3, at the Insight.com Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona.

In the only bowl game Saturday featuring a top-20 team, Syracuse running back James Mungro scored three touchdowns, including two just 52 seconds apart in the second quarter after Kansas State turnovers.

The Orangemen finish the season with a 10-3 record, while the Wildcats wind up at 6-6.

In Pontiac, Michigan (outside Detroit), the Toledo Rockets held on to beat the Cincinnati Bearcats, 23-16. Toledo's Chester Taylor ran for a Motor City Bowl-record 190 yards, and scored the winning touchdown with three-and-a-half minutes remaining. Cincinnati moved the ball to the five-yard-line, but could not convert on fourth down with 50 seconds remaining.

Toledo completes the season with a 10-2 record, while Cincinnati is 7-5.

The Iowa Hawkeyes used a 47-yard field goal from Nate Kaeding with 44 seconds left to down the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 19-16, at the Sylvania Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. Kaeding also booted three other field goals Saturday, including another from 47 yards out.

Both schools finished with 7-5 records.

College football play continues through January 3, when the University of Miami Hurricanes take on Nebraska in the national championship game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
